When I started reading it, which surprised me, probably because I had not quite realized where the story took place, was the behavior of these women's mothers families to their servants who were black. But the story takes place mostly in the 60s, slavery has been abolished for quite some years and people of color are almost treated as yet.

The story is shared by three votes: Abileen that opens the novel, which was occupied by 17 white children, of Minnie, her best friend who can not help saying the substance of his thought and earned him back on returns, and the last is a young white woman who wants to be a writer Skeeter. Between

The author had to do extensive research to write on such a sensitive subject, there 's not the nice one side and the other evil. When one reads the voice of one of three characters, you feel their feelings. Each to their characters, there are moments where I smiled because fortunately there are traces of humor. Especially when you know that Minnie was the daughter of horrible the former employee and she does not want to talk about it.
